Duration: 90 Minutes
The national focus on infection prevention, mandates for infection reporting, and no more reimbursement for certain preventable infections, have made health care workers increasingly award of the need to partner and collaborate with those who share a common goal to achieve a desired outcome. Partnership and collaboration, not isolation, are needed now more than ever. Infection preventionists and operating room nurse share the goal of prevention of surgical site infection but have not always worked in a collaborative environment. The traditional relationship between the Infection Control Department and the Operating Room has been more of isolation rather than collaboration. This must change. This session will describe barriers, improve collaboration and create a partnership. This session is suitable for infection preventionists, operating room nurses, technicians and sterile processing personnel.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss barriers to effective collaboration and partnering between operating room and infection prevention personnel/departments
- Identify two concerns that both infection preventionists and perioperative personnel share
- Explore opportunities and strategies to effective collaboration and partnership between operating room and infection prevention personnel/departments.
