Description: SSIs pose significant patient morbidity and mortality and are among the most common health care associated infections. IPs have an important role in the prevention of SSI beyond SSI surveillance. IPs should have expert knowledge and understanding of the new CDC guidelines, along with existing and future prevention guidelines, and should serve as leaders in the implementation of best practices and prevention bundles. Implementation of new and existing guidelines in SSI prevention requires thoughtful and careful collaboration with several interprofessional and interdisciplinary teams.
